Think of it like this: if you have a glass of ice water and the ice melts, nothing happens. However, if you add water to the glass, it overflows. This is the case with global warming. If the ice caps melt nothing will happen flood wise because the total volume doesn't change. However, if the ice melts in Antarctica or the North Pole and slides into the ocean the volume will increase and floods will happen.
From a pollution affects weather standpoint, we are screwed. The US and other industrialized nations commit billions of tons of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. That is bad enough, but now you have China and India going through their first industrial revolutions with no regulations whatsoever on pollution. Even if we stopped now it would take thousands of years for the earth to repair itself.
Also: China, India, Pakistan, and most other Asian/African countries have doubling times of less than 50 years. That means their populations will double in that amount of time. We are looking at a global population of 15 billion by 2060 - the vast majority of these people unable to feed and care for themselves. It all comes down to 'limiting factors' - Too Many People = Pollution = Global Warming = Lots of People Die. A=B=C=D. you can substitute any number of things for B and C. Natural limiting factors include disease, weather, starvation, war, etc. Limiting factors are the tools Mother Earth uses to defend herself. The die, I'm afraid, is already cast...
